What philosophy have I learned? Self-responsibility of sacrifice with a balanced enjoy-the-moment lifestyle for one. Others for-sure; Bio-Objectivism most importantly.
But as I grow closer to death; I find that Art has drawn me closer. Closer in every way. I feel the urge to bring Art closer; for it to fine tune and balance life.
I typically describe myself as a scientist. Logic, math, scientific theory, truth not opinion. Yes, these have created my character; provided success; thank you Mom for teaching me these skills. But these survival skills exist to feed the Art of Living.
They (the sciences) are not the goal unto themselves; but more like tools. They do the heavy lifting; their big stones; the heavy deeds in the weighing of the heart - Maat’s judgement of Osiris (the famous Egyptian petrograph.) They are tools I enjoy and love; but tools still.
To achieve the final balance Art is needed – the light feathers needed by the scale to reach the balanced equilibrium - enlightenment (whatever that may be !! ??).
No news for 11 days now. Life aboard a live aboard dive boat in French Polynesia. The world may have changed. 1000 things may be different at home. Detach, read philosophy, write in my journal - be realistic and pragmatic; yet embrace the art of living. Enjoy the moment ! Away from the world.
I let time wash over me here on the oceans. I have little importance here. I embrace the small accomplishments with my sons, and breathe. Always being conscious of my well earned prosperity. Humble, minimalist, grounded, grateful.
Share more, be understanding – of others’ limits – not everyone can achieve enlightenment.
Can I? I feel the closer I get to it the more elusive it becomes.
It becomes Art itself. Less measured, more transcendental – more translated.
More truth, less deception. Less remembering, more discovery and exploration.
Less chaos, more order. Less chatter, more clarity. Less regret, more hope.
Less complex, more simplistic. Fewer Land-Sharks, more Ocean-Sharks.
Less thinking, more noticing.
Diving and sailing have taught me the Art of Living. My father brought these to me. Thank you for that Dad.
